Paul was in prison in Rome expecting execution, but his letters were to encourage others. He’d known God with him in shipwrecks and floggings — his story was about God’s constant love.
But how could he write:
“For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21, NIV)?
Despite his bad situation, Paul was in a good place spiritually. Each day of life was an opportunity to serve Christ; end of life meant being with Him. Prison offered opportunities with the soldiers to explain his faith and share stories about God finding him and sending him to reach others.
• Are you stuck on your viewpoint? Don’t blame God but learn to see things from God’s perspective.
• Can God use your setback? Perhaps as a backdrop for telling your own story of God’s goodness.
